Info on Internet Radio for Italy and beyond....

(LAST EDITED/UPDATED: 19 January 2008)

Here are some links on Internet Radio for Italy and beyond:

DEFINITION
GUIDES/DIRECTORIES
  • digitalradiotech.co.uk
    • Broadband Internet Radio – "This page provides links to broadband Internet radio streams for the bigger UK radio stations that are at a higher level of audio quality than they're at on DAB. The reason they're at a higher level of audio quality is due to them using more modern audio formats -- such as WMA, AAC and Ogg Vorbis -- than the outdated MP2 format that's used on DAB. Furthermore, the audio quality of Internet radio streams is likely to get better over time due to Internet bandwidth reducing in price, which allows the broadcasters to use higher bit rate levels."
    • Internet Radio – "Internet radio seems to have earned itself a reputation for being at low audio quality, which in a lot of cases has been a fair criticism up to now due to the bigger stations typically using very low bit rate levels until recently. However, the Internet will become the system that provides the highest audio quality out of all of the digital systems that carry radio within the next year or two (as of 2007)!"

This blog entry was originally part of one that I posted back in 2005. It has been updated and is for those individuals that are more interested in radio than TV. It should be noted that whatever I say or state for Italy with few exceptions is good for other countries in the world. This is just a sampling of the thousands of internet radio stations available on the internet.

Info About AngloInfo for Italy

Here are some links for AngloINFO Italy:
AngloINFO "currently has four websites in Italy, serving Rome, Milan, Tuscany and Liguria, with more in the pipeline."

"Italy is a country of contrasts: the urban excitement of Rome, Milan and Naples, the rolling beauty of Tuscany and the craggy Amalfi coast. With so many different places to choose from, it attracts foreign residents for all sorts of reasons - from business-people building an international career to retirees choosing the languid pace of an Italian rural life."

"Whatever your reason for choosing Italy as your home, AngloINFO's world-class English-language information and interaction can provide you with the tools you need to smooth your move and enhance your life in Italy."

I have found AngloINFO to be an excellent resource for compiling and researching information for my various blog entries and postings on information about Rome, Milan, Tuscany and Liguria and about Italy. It is not perfect and depends on the interaction of its readers, supporters and various businesses for input, content and feedback. I believe they are trying to the best of their ability to bring accurate and timely information to its regional audiences and readers wherever they are located.

Since moving to Monte San Savino (AR) in the region of Toscana, I have made use of AngloINFO Tuscany – "Life in Tuscany, in English!" for finding out information about various events in the region, trying to find a place to repair my Yamaha stereo receiver and read the Forum to see what people are saying. I do make use of this resource.

While it's nice to read about travels in Italy, you need to experience the real thing. I have been very fortunate to have travel as much as I have and to have lived in Germany, Kuwait and now Italy for extended periods of time. Living in a foreign country is not like moving to another state or across the country. There are major differences but if you are flexible and open minded, you will adapt to your new surroundings.

The 2008 elections for President, Senate and Congress are just over a year away. Some of the Expats from the USA still maintain a connection either through taxes or property owned in their respective home State, you can still vote in US national , State and local elections while abroad via absentee voting. You may ask yourself why should I vote in an USA election since I now live in Italy. First of all, it's your right. Whomever you may vote for or whatever political party you may be associated with, you have the right to vote wherever you may live on the planet.

Broken links: Since November, 2005, I have written over 300+ blog entries with 1,000's of corresponding links/URLs for Moving2Italy2, covering a varied and wide range of topics. In the event if you come across a broken link or a non-functioning link/URL, please post a comment and report the non-functional link. I wish to thank you in advance for assisting me in the ongoing maintenance and the updating of this successful and informative blog.

My wife and I have bought travel insurance before we moved to Italy for three main reasons:
  1. My wife had an elderly mother who lived alone.
  2. While both of us are reasonably healthy, you just never know.
  3. I had been laid off from my job (Information Technology) several times because of company mergers, corporate downsizing or economic conditions.
While our circumstances have changed, we still buy travel insurance when we travel because of the uncertainty of the travel industry (airlines going bankrupt or out of business, unexpected delays, etc.) and our awareness of our health situation. I am now in my 60's and my wife is in her 50's.

The reason that I did not list any specific travel insurance providers is because what may be a good policy for someone in my age group and interests may differ from someone else. There are many companies that provide travel insurance and you should select one that meets your specific needs and requirements. Please pay attention to the small print, restrictions on activities and types of travel, pre-existing medical/health conditions and age of insured individual(s).

The reason that I list these links is to provide information for individuals who are dreaming, considering a move or traveling to Italy. It is my intent to share these links (web sites) with like-minded individuals who are in the process of considering, have made the decision to move or travel to Italy for whatever reason. I have attempted to group these links and to categorize them.

These blog postings and entries are not static. As I come across new information, I'll update the appropriate blog entry periodically.

I have found in my research on the Internet that by changing the wording of the search argument or the order of the wording of the search argument on a search engine, e.g., Google, you may get different results. There is so much information to choose from on the internet. Unfortunately, there's a lot of junk that clutters up one's search. I believe in my presentation format that it eliminates the need for one to do multiple searches. Also, I believe this information is a baseline or starting point for an individual to conduct their own search and they do not have to reinvent the wheel or start from scratch.

For my blog, I am presenting the fruits of my efforts of just a portion of that information in a format that is of use to my wife and myself for future use and reference (and hopefully, other individuals) as we prepare for our move to Italy.

I am open to suggestions and solicit comments from the readers of this blog for your feedback.

That's it for Saturday, 1 September 2007: sabato, 1 settembre 2007.
