My wife and I have moved to Italy in mid-September, 2007. Prior to this move and after, I had identified, collected, assembled for our eventual move to Italy many, many links about things one should be aware of before moving to Italy. I believe that these links will benefit other like-minded individuals who are considering or dreaming to move to Italy. This effort is on-going and I hope will benefit with the interaction with interested individuals. I will continue to make entries to this blog.

The above links are current. If anyone has any suggestions for other sites, please feel free to post your comment and I'll update this blog entry. For your specific interest, please search the web for further information using
. Please note: I do NOT represent or endorse any of these links nor do I receive payment for listing them in my blog.
The reason that I list these links is to provide information for individuals who are dreaming, considering a move or traveling to Italy. It is my intent to share these links (web sites) with like-minded individuals who are in the process of considering, have made the decision to move or travel to Italy for whatever reason. I have attempted to group these links and to categorize them.
These blog postings and entries are not static. As I come across new information, I'll update the appropriate blog entry periodically.
I have found in my research on the Internet that by changing the wording of the search argument or the order of the wording of the search argument on a search engine, e.g., Google, you may get different results. There is so much information to choose from on the internet. Unfortunately, there's a lot of junk that clutters up one's search. I believe in my presentation format that it eliminates the need for one to do multiple searches. Also, I believe this information is a baseline or starting point for an individual to conduct their own search and they do not have to reinvent the wheel or start from scratch.
For my blog, I am presenting the fruits of my efforts of just a portion of that information in a format that is of use to my wife and myself for future use and reference (and hopefully, other individuals) as we prepare for our move to Italy.
I am open to suggestions and solicit comments from the readers of this blog for your feedback. That's it for Saturday, 1 September 2007: sabato, 1 settembre 2007.
Ciao, Ben

There are thousands of deals, packages, travel agents, etc. to get you to Italy. They come in all shapes and sizes. Some people would like to have everything planned out for them. Other individuals want to plan everything or somethings for themselves. For example, my wife's friend, Nina, is doing a combination of the above. She found a special airfare to fly to Dublin from Aer Lingus and will spend sometime there with another friend, Ellen. Then, by using a very low Euro airfare from RyanAir will continue their journey onto Italy, pickup and drop off a rental car and return back to Dublin on another RyanAir flight for their Aer Lingus flight back to the States.
Depending on where you live in the USA and the time of year, there are some excellent airfares to Europe. Then, by using a low cost air carrier, you can fly onto your ultimate destination: Italy or wherever. However, I caution you that you need to be aware of strikes, work slow downs or any potential disruption to a travel segment that may delay your return flight. Be sure to allow enough time to get from point A to C via B. If not, all the money you saved initially will be lost and then you will spend a lot more trying to get back from your vacation. There are risks but if you are willing to take them, your reward will be a trip of a lifetime with memories of a fantastic trip and to share it with others in your life.
I cannot emphasize enough the important of buying travel insurance for any journey that you may plan on taking in the world. Life happens! Sometimes before the journey begins and other times during your travels. From personal experience, it is better to have travel insurance than to be without it.
Best of all, you can repeat this experience on your next trip to Italy. With proper planning on what you want to do and where you want to go and the use of the Internet and the knowledge from your most recent trip to Italy via wherever, you can, you can make multiple trips to Italy, Europe or wherever on the planet you want to go for as little or as much you can afford to pay.

There are thousands of restaurants in Italy. Some are excellent and very affordable and others that are not worth mentioning. My wife and I like to go to where the "locals" eat and where these restaurants are not looking for the "tourists" trade. The menus are in Italian only and the wait staff will only speak Italian to you. But on your part, if you attempt to speak with a few words spoken in Italian and with some hand gestures, you will be rewarded with a very fine and memorable meal.
However, there are many fine restaurants in Italy and in over the 16+ years of traveling to Italy and now living in Italy for 7+ years, I can count on one hand the number of restaurants that I would not return to for another meal.

While it's nice to have anyone of the above mentioned dietary/food allergy translations cards while in Italy or when traveling anywhere, one should exercise due care and diligence when you are eating out just like you were at home. It is critical to make sure that not only the waiter/waitress understand that you have a dietary/food allergy to certain food items and products but to convey that urgency and understanding to whomever is preparing your meal in the kitchen.
