You may wonder why I made comments on some of the above links for Thai, Swedish or some other foreign language. In the Spring, 2005, my wife and I attended a class titled, "Italian for Travelers" at Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) at the Annandale campus. In this class, there were students from several foreign countries taking this course. I had already started collecting links for Italy and as the class progress, I started another listing for Italian language links. The above list with updates was passed out to my fellow classmates. This class was taught by Sybil Haynes. When Sybil is not teaching, she leads tours to her native Italy. You may read more about these tours at Dolce Vita Adventures.

Please check back for updates because my wife and I will need to further our knowledge of the Italian language before we move there in a few years. Some of the sites mentioned above will lead you to other interesting web sites on Italy.

While most of the above sites are "free", there may be other portions of these sites that are fee based. That is why I stated that the above are suggested reference links to learning the Italian language. You have a choice and many, many options.

    This is a pretty good sampling of private and public transportation and other transportation modes in Italy. With the exception of LIMOUSINE SERVICE, where I only listed a few because usually one goes by a recommendation from friends or a travel agent or by word of mouth. You can also do a search (Find) on the Slow Travel Talk Italy forum site for a recommendation for a LIMOUSINE SERVICE. If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know. The same goes for any other suggestions or recommendations for transportation.

    My wife and I have used various forms of transportation in Italy and we have been rewarded with many memories and unbelieveable sights. Yes, at times it can be confusing. But a bus ride down the Amalfi coast with a ferry ride back to Sorrento is fantastic and filled with excitement especially with its scenic views of the water and the coastline. It is not to be missed!

    Please note: Be sure to check the year of any schedule listed above. These listings were done in the fall of 2005. Italy uses a 24 hour clock. Which means you will subtract 1200 from anytime over or greater than 12:00 while you are traveling in Italy. For example, 14:15 is 2:15 PM or 23:47 is 11:47 PM.

      • Avian Flu Fact Sheet – Source: U. S. Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs – International Travel

    • DRUGS
      • Prescription
        • One should be able to find most of their U.S. prescribed drugs at a farmacia (drug store/pharmacy) which are located in cities and most towns in Italy depending on size and population.
        • However, if you are taking a new or recently release drug or medication released in the U. S., the farmica in Italy may not have it available to them.
        • Please do NOT pack your drugs or medications in your checked luggage. Be sure to carry them with you whether you are flying, taking a bus or a train or whatever the mode of transportation. You do not want to risk shortening your vacation or travel because of lost, delayed or stolen drugs or medications.
      • Over the counter (OTC)
        • Believe it or not, you will have to go to a farmacia to buy aspirin plus pay more for fewer doses.
        • If you have a favorite OTC drug or medication(s), be sure you have an adequate supply with you when you move or travel around Italy.
        • The major exception is if you have access to one of the U.S. Military bases (Air Force, Army or Navy) in Italy and have authorized privileges to the Commissary, Shopette and Post/Base Exchange based on your status.

    Much can be said about travel and your health. For most of us, we may never need to go to a hospital or seek out medical assistance. However, there are always a few that will need to plan and be aware of health and medical contingencies concern their respective travel plans.
