My wife and I have attended the Toscana Gospel Festival for the past 2 years. It is an event that is well attended by Italians and Expats from many different countries around the world. For English speakers living in Italy, it will be probably the most English they have heard in Italy at one time except for radio and TV listening.

In 2007, we attended our first Toscana Gospel Festival at a medium size church in Monte San Savino (AR). We didn't know what to expect and wanted to support this event. When we entered the church, it was completely filled and we were pleasantly surprised by size of the crowd and the enthusiasm of the audience. Since that first performance, we attended other Toscana Gospel Festival events throughout Tuscany.

Each group performing in the Toscana Gospel Festival come from different parts of the United States and while it's gospel music, there is a difference in style and presentation. If you have an opportunity to attend one of Toscana Gospel Festival performances, please go. Martha and I can highly recommend these events. Please note: There may be an admittance fee (Ingresso €) charged at some locations. Please check the above Programma for locations that will be charging an admittance fee (Ingresso €). The actual admittance fee (Ingresso €) will differ by the performance location.

I never realized how popular gospel music is in Italy. In December, 2007, my wife and I went to our first gospel music performance at a church just outside Monte San Savino (AR) later in the month we attended another one with my daughter and her boyfriend in Siena in Tuscany. This year, we have attended other gospel music performances. I can tell you it an amazing sight to see the Italians in the audience clapping their hands, singing along and nodding their heads in time with the music.

Some of these performance have already happen but plan on attending next year's Gospel Music Festival performances in December, 2009 and January, 2010.
